Family Trek In Tangkahan North Sumatra

Embark on a jungle adventure built for all ages. Our half-day family trek in Tangkahan is the perfect way to explore the wild without the stress of an arduous hike. In just 3-4 hours, you’ll follow ancient elephant paths through the lush, green canopy of the Gunung Leuser National Park, encountering the sights and sounds of the Sumatra rainforest.

The trail leads you to the majestic Ficus tree—a towering natural wonder with massive roots that make for the ultimate family photo. Along the way, keep your eyes peeled for Thomas Leaf monkeys and colorful birds. This trek is the ideal choice for visitors looking for a short but exciting kid-friendly jungle adventure that balances education with pure outdoor fun.

Itinerary

Welcome to Tangkahan

  • Arrive in Tangkahan and settle in at our Eco Glamping Retreat
  • Welcome Drink
  • Swimming in the bamboo river (optional)
  • Dinner at the open-air Glamping restaurant
DAY 2
DAY 2

Into the Jungle

  • Home cooked breakfast at Tangkahan Eco Glamping
  • 8;30 am - leave site to begin trekking
  • Wander through rubber plantations before crossing the suspension bridge to enter the protected Gunung Leuser National Park
  • After 1-2 hours of walking in the jungle, take a rest break and enjoy delicious fresh tropical fruit prepared by our team
  • During your trip, keep an eye out for orangutans, gibbons, hornbills, macaques and plenty of reptiles and insects
  • After resting, continue another about 1 hour to the ancient ficus tree, following elephant trails.
  • Rest and admire the tree – plenty of time for photo ops!
  • Walk another easy 30 minutes to your final destination, the Buluh River.
  • Enjoy a fantastic riverside lunch with a menu delicious local dishes and fresh fruit.
  • After finishing lunch, you can explore the bamboo river or relax and/or go straight back to your accommodation (Optional)
  • Dinner at Tangkahan Eco Glamping
  • After dinner we will continue the spotlight fro about 1 our around our place to see animals that are active at night like fireflies and other wild animals

  • If you’re lucky, you can see wild animals such as orangutans, gibbons, long-tailed monkeys, hornbills and other animals.
  • Learn about the many tree and plant species you pass in the rainforest on the way to the ancient ficus tree.
  • If the ficus tree is fruiting, many animals will flock to the area to eat – keep an eye out for hornbills, orangutans and other species.
