FULL DAY JUNGLE TREK IN TANGKAHAN + MEET THE ELEPHANTS

Spend the day experiencing the jungle as a human before joining with our incredible rescue elephants and seeing it through their eyes. This trek is ideal for guests who don’t have much time to spare but want to see as much as the jungle as possible.

FULL DAY JUNGLE TREKKING ITINERARY

DAY 1
DAY 1

Welcome to Tangkahan

  • Arrive in Tangkahan and settle in at our Eco Glamping Retreat
  • Welcome drink
  • Swimming in the Bulu River waterfall
  • Dinner at the open-air Glamping restaurant
DAY 2
DAY 2

Into the Jungle

  • Home cooked breakfast at Tangkahan Eco Glamping
  • 8;30am - leave site to begin trekking
  • You will have a 5-10 minute walk to reach the border of the Gunung Leuser National Park
  • You will have an uphill trek up Mount Leuser for around 15 minutes – the slope is moderate and we will take it slow.
  • After the climb, it's time for a flatter route as we continue hiking in search of wild animals such as orangutans, gibbons, long-tailed monkeys, hornbills and other animals
  • Trek through the rainforest for about 1 hour before taking a break to enjoy delicious fresh tropical fruit prepared by our team
  • After a decent break, we’ll continue trekking to meet up with the elephants of the Sumatran Rescue centre.
  • Witness the elephants as they wander through their natural habitat
  • You will spend about 1 hour with the elephants.
  • After you are ready with elephants, you will continue trekking towards the ficus tree for about 30 minutes.
  • After finishing at the Vicus tree, you will exit the forest and stop at the Bulu River for lunch which is ready to be served to you.
  • After lunch and explore Buluh river (optional) , you will walk home across the bridge or getek.
  • Dinner at Tangkahan Eco Glamping
  • After dinner we will continue the spotlight fro about 1 our around our place to see animals that are active at night like fireflies and other wild animals

  • If you’re lucky, you can see wild animals such as orangutans, gibbons, long-tailed monkeys, hornbills and other animals.

  • The animals of the rainforest are wild, so we never guarantee that you’ll spot any particular, but we’ll do our best to show you the amazing flora and fauna living in the area.
  • Please do not touch or approach the elephants without direction or permission from the elephant handlers
