Full Day Tangkahan Jungle Trek: Wild Orangutans & The Bat Cave

Ready for the ultimate day of discovery? Our Full Day Tangkahan Jungle Trek takes you deep into the heart of the Gunung Leuser National Park to experience the rainforest’s best-kept secrets.

Over 6–7 hours, you’ll follow our expert guides through primary jungle in search of wild orangutans, gibbons, and Thomas Leaf monkeys. The highlight of the afternoon is a visit to the mysterious Tangkahan Bat Cave—a stunning natural limestone formation where you can see thousands of bats and incredible rock structures. After exploring the cave, we’ll head to a hidden jungle waterfall for a refreshing swim and a traditional jungle picnic lunch by the river. It’s a day packed with wildlife, geology, and adventure.

Welcome to Tangkahan

  • Arrive in Tangkahan and settle in at our Eco Glamping Retrea
  • welcome drink
  • Swimming in the Bulu River waterfall
  • Dinner at the open-air Glamping restaurant
DAY 2
DAY 2

Into the Jungle

  • Home cooked breakfast at Tangkahan Eco Glamping
  • 8;30 am - leave site to begin trekking
  • You will have a 5-10 minute walk to reach the border of the Gunung Leuser National Park
  • Trek through the rainforest for about 2 hours before taking a break to enjoy delicious fresh tropical fruit prepared by our team
  • During your trip you will be able to see wild animals such as Sumatran orangutans, gibbons, hornbills, long-tailed monkeys and other animals if you are lucky.
  • After resting, continue another about 1 1/2 hours to the bat cave entrance
  • Spend 20-30 minutes exploring the cave before emerging at the river
  • After enjoying the cave, it's time to go back trekking for about 15 minutes and have lunch on the river bank.
  • After lunch, you are free, you can relax or swim in the natural hot springs just across the river.
  • Lastly, what just might be the highlight of the day. Lie back on our tubing raft and head back home downriver on our jungle taxi.
  • Dinner at Tangkahan Eco Glamping with a menu of BBQ chicken + jungle food and many other delicious food options
  • After dinner we will continue the spotlight fro about 1 our around our place to see animals that are active at night like fireflies and other wild animals

  • The animals are wild, so we never guarantee that you’ll spot any particular, but we’ll do our best to show you the amazing flora and fauna living in the rainforest.

  • The caving experience includes potentially dangerous terrain such as slippery surfaces, deep caverns and a few tight squeezes. It is not suitable for young children or people with mobility issues or a fear of enclosed spaces.
